DCPS Coaches Hands-on Metal Robotics Collaboration Session

DCPS Coaches Hands-on Metal Robotics Collaboration Session

Champion Robotics recently hosted an exciting hands-on collaboration session bringing together experienced metal robotics students and Duval County Public Schools teachers who are stepping into coaching roles for FIRST Tech Challenge teams.

The four-hour session was led by Coach Kalai, who guided participants through foundational metal robotics concepts while emphasizing strategies to inspire and motivate students on their teams. Youth Mentors Vakantie and Spencer demonstrated their expertise by sharing real-world insights from their competition experiences and showcasing live metal robot demonstrations.

What Made This Session Special

This wasn't just a one-way instruction session—it was a true knowledge exchange. The student demonstrators fielded questions from teachers, explained design decisions, and highlighted the problem-solving skills that metal robotics develops. Teachers gained practical insights into how to build a culture of excellence within their own FIRST Tech Challenge programs.

Coach Kalai's comprehensive approach covered the technical fundamentals while also diving into the mindset and leadership qualities needed to inspire young roboticists. Participants left with actionable strategies for engaging students and fostering the kind of dedication that drives success in competitive robotics.

Building the Next Generation of Roboticists

Collaborations like this strengthen the entire robotics community. When experienced teams share their knowledge with new coaches, the entire ecosystem benefits. Teachers now have the confidence and practical framework to guide their students through the challenges of metal robotics, while students continue to develop leadership and mentoring skills that extend far beyond the competition field.

We're grateful to all the dedicated DCPS educators working to bring the transformative power of FIRST Tech Challenge to more students.
